We love Lucertola too much to give you an unbiased description, but please read some of the messages left by our guests over the last 10 years.

A fabulous time in a beautiful place, great company, food and entertainment - including caterpillars, butterflies, goosanders, black kites, and a dipper. Thank you for giving us a lovely time.

Thank you so much for a fabulous week in unquestionably the best villa on Lake Como. Wonderful walks, swimming, sight seeing and delicious food. Your little harbour proved a necessary and safe port in a storm which rumbled by a few times. Brilliant.

Well, what can we say... the most fabulous place! Staying here has made our wedding very special. Wonderfull Villa made even better with being able to swim everyday in the lake - throwing ourselves in when the afternoons get hot!

Batteries wonderfully recharged after 6 days of idleness. Many thanks

I knew I was going to be happy the moment I heard the church bells echoing across the lake - a completely wonderful week, with so much to please the senses.

After a rather wet start to the week, the weather became superb and absolutely roasting!! The villa is beautiful and I could not have had a more enjoyable holiday here. Thank you very much

This is our first visit to the lakes of Italy and we have been spoilt by the unique position and charming location of Villa Lucertola. Wonderful “feel” to this home and we have had the most fabulous time. Excellent cook and housekeeper have added to the relaxing atmosphere. Thank you. A stunning place to celebrate Chris’ 56th birthday.

If it is to be the Italian Lakes it can now only be at Villa Lucertola - the most beautiful, the most perfectly poised on the best part of the lake. and the extraordinary cooking and hospitality of the resident staff
— Arelle, 2012
We have had the most fabulous week. Lots of sun, delicious food, plenty of swimming. Some hearty walks with truly spectacular views. All in all a very spoiling holiday. Thank you both for letting us come to the wonderful Villa Lucertola.

The unspoilt peaceful nature of the lake with its beautiful surrounding villages all seem quite unchanged from my last visit to this area 50 years ago. A boat from Newton’s Rent a Boat helped us explore the shoreline as well as access the posh hotels and their facilities. Thank you so much for making it all possible.

What a wonderful villa Lucertola has been for our family celebrations. We have loved its unique position and the comfort of what is clearly a much treasured family home. As well as birthdays to celebrate, The staff have looked after us and cooked for us brilliantly. We have rowed & sailed, swum & walked, cliff/wall jumped & sunbathed. Backgammon & charades, sightseeing & Italian meals - all these pleasures and more have given us a family holiday that we will forever remember.
— The Taylors, 2009
Just a quick thank-you for the amazing weekend at Villa Lucertola. I hear my book has been absorbed into the distinguished library there. Something about that makes me oddly satisfied. My contribution, as it were.

Booking on the internet from several thousand miles away, we were a bit anxious about what we would find on the shores of Lake Como. And we must admit, upon arrival, the 184 steps seemed quite daunting. But Villa Lucertola worked her charm and had us mesmorised with her “laid back” tranquil setting.

As the days went on, we used the stairs as “exercise” and the surrounding towns (Bellagio, Varenna, Menaggio, Tremezzo, Cernobbio) became our adventures. The staff were the “icing on the cake” making sure we were comfortable and cooking the most wonderful meals.

We will miss it, but never forget it! Thank you & Aloha.

No words express nor pictures show...
Fine times, good friends may be found anywhere, but to have them here, in this gem on the Italian lakes, is truly unparalleled. It is a return to a bygone era of gentility, good company and conversation, a summer by the lake...
I love the history of this place and sense the spirit of those who had the imagination and vision to create such a refuge, as well as the many who have since passed through its doors. Each leaves some part of themselves here; I know that Marilyn and I will, just as we shall carry a part of it with us for the rest of our lives.
I will miss the tranquility of the dawn, the serenity of the late evening
... the joy of making music on the veranda late at night, looking across towards the shimmering lights on the far side...
... the sound of the waves against the shore...
... the laughter...
But most of all I will miss this special place.
Thank you for allowing us to become a small part of the story of Villa Lucertola.

It was so lovely for this part of Italy to be the setting for Emily’s wedding with Franco. What a wonderful wedding. The following day about 60 people came to Villa Lucertola for a buffet lunch - most ended up chilling, chatting and diving off the pier - Half of Como seemed to come out in boats to see what was going on! The staff did a lovely job in terms of catering and generally taking care of us. We all hope to come back here some day!

There is something rather surreal about waterskiing along side this beautiful villa with breathtaking mountains behind you. The long swims, walks, abseils, intense games of tennis, water skiing and wonderful food and drink combined with perfect company have created a superb week. Thank you very much. It was all lovely!
